Working as a contract cleaner on the site of the London 2012 Athletes’ Village, Rasa Valuckaite was keen to take up the opportunity of free training offered through Skills Support for the Workforce, to help her develop and progress her career opportunities.
Rasa is part of a large team working to transform the former Olympic site into a new residential neighbourhood now known as the East Village. She initially enrolled on a NVQ Level 1 Health and Safety in the Workplace course offered through Newham College and has since progressed to a Level 2 in Construction Cleaning and Finishing.
Rasa’s enthusiasm for her work and team and her dedication to learning was immediately recognised by her managers and she was nominated for a Safety, Quality and Environmental Award.
Mike Harris, a Training Consultant at the site, put Rasa forward for the award and said: “Rasa has continuously lifted the team’s moral and always strives for quality and safety on site. As well as encouraging her colleagues to take pride in their work and achieve the high standards demanded by the client, she always ensures deadlines are met.
“As well as working hard to achieve her own qualifications she has also been instrumental in encouraging her colleagues to make the most of the training opportunities on offer through the SSW project.”
Rasa has since been promoted to the position of Supervisor and plans to continue studying in the future.
